Jewish Nurse Breastfeeds A Baby After The Tot’s Mother Was Seriously Injured In A Car Crash

A JEWISH nurse won dozens of hearts by breastfeeding a Palestinian baby whose mother had been seriously injured in a car accident.

Ula Ostrowski-Zak could not get the baby boy to take milk from a bottle after seven hours of trying – so decided to feed the nine-month-old with her own milk.

The act was especially poignant because Jews and Palestinians are in an ongoing feud in the Middle East.

The baby had been travelling in a car when it collided with an armoured bus, killing his father and leaving his mother with a serious head injury and unable to feed him.

Yaman was rushed to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital at Ein Kerem in central Israel.

She said: “His aunts were surprised that a Jew agreed to breastfeed him, but I told them that any mother would do it.

“I fed him five times. His aunts embraced me and thanked me. They were really surprised.”

The kind-hearted nurse even went as far as to organise other new mums to help feed the boy.

A request on a social media group for new mums yielded thousands of offers to travel to the hospital to breastfeed the young lad.

Ms Ostrowski-Zak said: “Within two hours I received more than a thousand likes and responses from women who volunteered to help, women who were willing to travel even from Haifa (in northern Israel) to breastfeed him.

“In between, I continued to try to expose the child to the bottle but without success.”

With Yaman’s mother still seriously ill, his aunts are expected to care for him when he is discharged from hospital soon.

One unnamed aunt said she would be able to make arrangements for the boy to be breastfed when she got home.
